Aizawl, August 06, 2008: Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC), Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and Zoram Kuthnathawktu Pawl (ZKP) on Wednesday announced to have formed a pre-poll alliance named ‘United Democratic Alliance’ (UDA) to fight the coming assembly elections in Mizoram.

Announcing the formation of the UDA at a press conference here, former Lok Sabha MP and ZNP chief Lalduhoma said the alliance was formed to fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state as they neither wanted the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) nor the Congress to come to power again.

August 7, 2008: The Mizoram drug eradication force yesterday arrested two Burmese nationals on charges of drug trafficking in Mizoram state, northeast India.

Supply Reduction Service (SRS) and Exercise and Narcotic forces raided a rented house belonging to Lalsangliana (30) located in Chanmari ward in Aizawl, capital of Mizoram state on Wednesday at around 7 pm and seized around 60 grams of opium. Lalsangliana was arrested.
